I recently completed a new quintet for percussion titled “Altered Gates.” It was commissioned by the L.V. Berkner High School Percussion Ensemble (Mike Garcia, director) for their showcase concert at the 2018 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis.

It’s an advanced piece consisting of completely unpitched percussion instruments. The five players surround the setup and while deemed a ‘concert’ work, it definitely has a certain level of rudimental aesthetic (requires chops/stamina, lots of split parts, incorporates marching tenors in the setup).

The piece is currently unpublished and is under exclusivity until April. After that, it will be published through Tapspace in mid-2019.

Tan Truong from West Side Recording Studio shot this video of Berkner performing the piece at PASIC 2018.
